Talking legal aid

Constituents, Sen. Barrett fight back against money in politics

Citizens United has allowed special interests to play an even more discouraging role in the political process. A group of constituents is fighting back by calling for an amendment to the U.S. constitution. I’m with them. I recently co-sponsored the bill filed by Sen. Jamie Eldridge and Rep. Cory Atkins.

Walden Pond Visitor Center Groundbreaking

The new Walden Pond Visitor Center will showcase the pond’s truly amazing legacy. Earlier this year, the state Legislature authorized $2 million in funding. The groundbreaking kicked off Phase I.

Prospect Hill Community Center Grand Opening

Dropped by the grand opening of the Prospect Hill Community Center in Waltham. Kids who live at Prospect Hill will be able to go there for homework help from Bentley and Brandeis students. The center will also offer classes ranging from English lessons for adults to computer skills.

Big win for disabilities rights at Fenway

In late October, Gov. Patrick signed three major disabilities bills into law at Fenway Park. In addition to Real Lives, in which I was personally involved, the governor put his signature on a bill expanding services for people with autism and on another strengthening background check requirements for those who work with individuals with disabilities.
